Auditions! For the Premiere Production of 2014

Auditions for Gaslight Theater's first play of 2014, the bitterweet comedy "Morning's at Seven" will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday December 29 and 6:30 p.m. Monday December 30 at Hallowell City Hall.

The three-act play will be performed in City Hall Auditorium March 20-23 and March 27-29, 2014.

The cast of four men and five women is unique in that seven of the nine roles are 60 to 70 years old.

The "youngsters" are thirtyish: Myrtle who has been courted by fortyish Homer, forever.

The action takes place in the front yard of the Swanson's (Thor and Cora) and the Bolton's (Carl and Ida). Homer lives with his parents, the Boltons.

Aaronetta Gibbs, sister to Ida and Cora, lives with the Swansons. Nearby lives another sister, Esther, who is married to David. He thinks all of his relatives are idiots.

The auditions will be cold readings from the script and some improvisation exercises. Bruce Hertz will direct the play which was written by Paul Osborn and originally staged on Broadway in 1939 and revived in 1980 and 2002.
