Gaslight Theater Dares to Ask: Why One-Acts?

Proposals sought for this year's Evening of One Act Plays

Each year, Gaslight Theater produces an Evening of One Act Plays. The One-Act productions allow us to encourage and mentor new directors, furthering our goal of making theater arts more accessible.

The One-Acts also provide an opportunity for actors to take on intriguing roles with a lesser time commitment than a full-length production. It's also a great way for those who haven't acted or directed before, or have limited experience, to "get their feet wet" on the stage.

Proposals are now being accepted for One Act Plays. Submit your proposal to the Gaslight Theater Board by email ( or mail to Gaslight Theater c/o Richard Bostwick Box 345 Hallowell, ME 04347 by January 31, 2012,

Proposal should have contact information for the director. We will also need to have a copy of the script (which we will return), short summary of the play, the number of actors and the approximate minutes in length. All shows will be staged with a minimal and highly movable set. You can contact us before January 31st to see if we have a copy of your show in our collection.

Shows will be cast by an open audition scheduled by The Gaslight Theater after the shows are chosen.
Gaslight will present the one acts April 13, 14 2012 at Hallowell City Hall. One or more will be presented at the Maine Association of Community Theaters One Act Festival on April 21 in Portland.
