Audience Votes Two Plays to MEAct One-Act Festival

Gaslight's audience at last week's Evening of One-Act Plays chose two of the plays to be Gaslight's entries at the Maine Association of Community Theaters (MEAct) One Act Festivalon May 14.

The two plays chosen were "Mother's Pennies" by J. Tenney Brooks, directed by Juli Brooks, and "All Cotton" by Shel Silverstein, directed by Ben Keene.

"Mother's Pennies" centers on a book of dreams and wishes, lovingly kept but never acted upon by a Mother too busy raising her daughters to experience life for herself. Her last wish is that her three very different daughters take her book as a guide, share in their mother's dreams, reconnect with each other and learn how to live with no regrets.

"All Cotton" deals with a situation all can relate to, being hassled when returning or exchanging something. This play adds a great, unexpected comic twist to that scenario.

The MEACT 2011 One Act Festival will take place on May 14 at the Great Falls Performing Arts Center, 30 Academy Street, Auburn. Shows start at 1:00 pm, following a morning of theater workshops. The admission of $12 is payable at the door. It covers all workshops, and all plays.
