Cast Announced for Five Women Wearing the Same Dress

Director Bruce Hertz has announced the case for Five Women Wearing the Same Dress, which will open August 14th at Hallowell City Hall.

The ladies of "Five Women" are hiding-out bridesmaids trying to escape the heat of a wedding reception.  They have been forced to wear the hideous, embarrasing dresses picked by the bride, which made her look gorgeous and the bridesmaids hideous.

The cast is:

  • Frances, a repressed and sheltered fundamentalist: Jessica Fratus of Gardiner
  • Meredith, the bride's younger sister: Stormy Keithly, South Portland
  • Trisha, the bride's former best friend: Samantha McGow, Edgecomb
  • Georgeanne, heartbroken by a failing marriage: Amber McAllister, South China
  • Mindy, the wise-cracking lesbian sister of the groom: Leslie Trentalange, Kennebunk
  • Tripp, a charming usher seeking Trisha's attention: Eric Lundquist, Augusta

The two-act comedy will be presented at Hallowell City Hall Friday to Sunday, Aug. 14-16 and Thursday to Saturday, Aug. 20-22.  There will be a 2 p.m. matinee performance on Sunday Aug. 16.  All other shows will be in the evening.

Five Women was written by Alan Ball in 1993, but will be staged in the present.  Ball, the Oscar winner for Best Picture, "American Beauty," and the popular television show, "True Blood," on HBO, portrays an incisive look at relationship customs through the unique perpective of the marriage ritual.  Critics have called Five Women a "fresh as a daisy comedy, funny as can be."

There is partial nudity and adult language in the play.  It is not suitable for children.
