The Gaslight Theater to perform “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” in Hallowell

The musical offering of the 2009 Gaslight season is the Gentlemen Prefer Blondes is a musical with a book by Joseph Fields and Anita Loos, lyrics by Leo Robin, and music by Jule Styne. Based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Loos, it launched the career of Carol Channing.

Lorelei Lee and her friend Dorothy Shaw a Pair of former Follies girls., embark on the Ile de France for a cruise to Europe.  There, Lorelei will marry the delightfully rich Gus Esmond, who happens to be the son of America's Button King. Lorelei and Dorothy are just "Two Little Girls from Little Rock", lounge singers on a transatlantic cruise, working their way to Paris, and enjoying the company of any eligible men they might meet along the way. Things do not go according to plan. Gus cannot join them until after he attends an important button conference.  There is also a rumor about something called a Zipper, which may compete with his great button empire. From here on, the plot twists and turns.

The Musical is directed by Deb Howard who brings her own brand of non-stop action staging to Hallowell City Hall.  Musical direction is by Brad Howard.  Ellen Lamb is Producer.

The box opens 1 hour before curtain time.

The Augusta Players presented this musical in November 18, and 19th  1957.  It was directed by Dan Kelly.
